Some historic vestigious of human ocupation of Évora city since the superior paleolithic are known, and we can find hundreds of megalithic monuments around the city.
The latin municipality was created in the year 59 B.C by the Roman Ceasar August with the name of “Liberalitas Julia”.
It was colonized by the arabs during five centuries, and was conquered by Giraldo Sem Pavor in 1165 A.C and integrated in the kingdom of Portugal.

In Évora was made strong resistance to the Castela ocupation and to the french invasions.
In the XV and XVI centuries the city was the bases of the monarchie during larges periods of time, being built some palaces, convents, churches, was created the University and the Aqueduct was built, to provide water to the city.The main monuments are the Cathredral, the Roman Temple and the University.
